“Thoughts become things. If you see it in your mind, you will hold it in your hand.” ~ Bob Proctor
Envisioning what you want in your life and being concrete about it, is a sure way to have it in your hands. In today’s culture we have begun to put those things on boards, called vision boards – making your thoughts become plans and dreams on paper! Vision Board parties are all the rave. You can find circles of friends gathering to church groups and the like gathering to put on paper their heart’s desires. The last vision party I attended was February 2020, hosted by the Ladies of NC A &T. These parties typically filled with beautiful, driven women encouraging their neighboring sister to adorn her board with colorful pictures depicting what you’re hoping for and believing to receive in the near future. You can be assured you’re met with high fives, and “yessss” “love it” and “you go girl”. These words of affirmation are endearing while giving you that extra push to believe for what you want. It’s the reassurance that YOU CAN DO IT, YOU CAN HAVE IT and YOU DESERVE IT.
As you plaster your vision and dreams for the year in colorful vibrant pictures and words, all of your heart’s desires are being put on paper – a board to be posted in the most intimate part of your home or office.
Habbakuk 2:3 reminds us to “Write the vision, And make it plain on tablets, That he may run who reads it. To put it simply put on paper what you’re envisioning- you’ve got to see it, before you see it. Can you see yourself with what you’re wanting? How will it look? How will it make you feel? Your vision is the plan in your mind, your heart, and on paper that you will commit to God and it is He that will prosper [flourish; make successful] (Proverbs 16:3). You got to know that though it is God who will make your plans successful, it requires some work on your part to be prepared and ready to receive what you’re believing to receive.
In 2015 I set out to put on paper what I wanted to see that year. It included marriage, buying a home, dream car, and travel. You see I had been praying for those things for some time and felt like I was ready and deserved them. But January of that year I committed to the tedious work of cutting out pictures, words, pasting it on poster board for display in my home. Not only did I put it on paper I started a plan of action to bring it to fruition through prayer and studying God’s word. I am in no way saying just study God’s word and pray to get what you want, that relationship should be solid with or without your heart’s desires. In this plan of action I wanted to remind God and thank God daily for giving me the things I wanted. Yes God already knows our thoughts before we even think them, and heart’s desires – He gives the desires to us; Yes! This process is to come boldly before his throne and be relentless in your pursuit – plead your case and declare the word of the Lord.
Let’s just say in 2015 when I started I was not playing, I wanted what I was waiting for and I wanted God to know it too – in action and in deed. I also included my then 10 year old son in the prayer efforts. We know the power in agreement, right? We committed to praying, reading the word of God daily, and I was fasting. Let’s be realistic some things (God things) only come through fasting and prayer, Mark 9:29. A strategic plan is always what’s necessary to bring to fruition the things you’re wanting and believing God to make happen in your life. Because of my obedience to the word of God and sacrifice I believe that opened the gateway for me to see the things I was waiting for…that year!
April 1, 2015 (2 days after I had a tragic car accident) I closed on the construction of my new home
April 2015 I purchased one of my dream cars. I had a pic of the exact same car saved in my photos from 2013 (WOW)
June 2015 I met my now husband. He proposed to me 6 months after meeting in December 2015.
November 2015 I traveled to Kenya, Africa (all expense paid) on a mission’s trip.
There were other abundant blessings God allowed to flow my way during that year as well and I am forever grateful to Him. I completely believe it was the strategy, a righteous pursuit of seeking of Him first and He in fact added everything else unto me. The power of the vision board provided the motivation I needed to see every day what I wanted and to remind me, it was possible! So in short if you’re waiting (hopeful; on the edge of your seat; serving) on God for anything in your life; try creating a vision board and circling those things you want in prayer!
